The New Jersey Chapter of SLA is seeking chapter members to serve on a scholarship committee that will award $500 to a worthy Library and Information Studies student who lives in New Jersey.
We would like to have 3-5 members, including the chair (myself) judging the student entries. All entries will be submitted online or via email. (There are still a couple of spaces left.) The committee members/judges are expected to read all entries and provide comments on each entrant via email and possibly conference call with the rest of the committee. Total time investment is likely to be 5 hours or less.
Requirements for scholarship committee members:
1. Must be a member of the New Jersey Chapter.
2. Cannot be eligible for the award.
3. Cannot nominate or recommend any particular applicant (although committee members/judges may encourage certain students to apply).
4. Must not be a current superior (boss, teacher), report (employee, student) or relative of any of the applicants.
Because #4 may not be known, we're also seeking two alternates who will read and judge entries in case of disqualifications.
Please let me know by Wednesday, Sept. 15, if you are interested in serving on the scholarship committee. It's a good opportunity to serve the chapter with a limited time commitment.
Best regards,
Eric C. Schwarz
