Want to help redesign the NJSLA website?

Seeking volunteers to join the NJSLA Website Redesign Committee.  Our aim is to complete the new website over the summer and launch it this coming Fall.

Desire to: Work on a team, learn new technologies, help NJSLA, gain marketable experience -- mandatory
Experience with: Wordpress, HTML, graphics, content development, or website design -- a plus.

The goals of this project are:

• Migrate the existing website contents to WordPress using the standard SLA template
• Customize the SLA template to meet the needs of NJSLA, including improved navigation, look, and feel
• Integrating all NJSLA communications (listserv, blog, Jobs blog) into a single user experience
• Identify potential partner(s) for Kate Creegan for webmaster tasks

Est'd launch: Sept/Oct 2012

Totes for Tuscaloosa! Drop them off at the eBooks Fair on May 12 - Sponsored by Drexel

Drexel iSchool students are collecting Totes for Tuscaloosa to help victims of the recent devastating tornadoes in the South.

Drop off your totes at the May 12th NJSLA eBooks Vendor Fair at the Somerset Hills Hotel on Thursday from 4pm-9pm. Tracie Burns, Account Services Manager for EBSCO Information Services will be collecting them for the drive and dropping them off at Drexel. As librarians who attend many meetings we do have a lot of these tote bags, and can now give them a meaningful job.
 
You can also drop them off directly at Drexel per the message below. 
 
Besides being an opportunity for librarians, this is a great opportunity for vendors to get rid of old/dated totes.

SLA Centennial Video Contest - View and Vote!

Voting is now open in the SLA Information Professional of Tomorrow video contest! Celebrate SLA's Centennial year by casting your ballot for your favorite video in the Student and the Professional categories.

All SLA members can view the submitted videos. Once you have watched all 16 videos, you can vote for your favorites.

And just a few things to keep in mind:

• Voting will end on March 31, 2009, at 11:59 p.m. (EDT).
• Winners will be announced April 7, 2009.
• View the videos as much as you would like, but members may only vote once in each category.
• You will need your SLA membership ID to cast your ballot.  If you've forgotten yours, not to worry! Instructions on how to retrieve it are included on the voting ballot through the link above.
• In case of a tie in either category, members of the SLA Centennial Commission and Video Contest Sub-committee will choose the winner(s).

Snapshot: One Day in the Life of New Jersey Libraries - Feb. 19

Snapshot Day is only ten days away – February 19, 2009

What would New Jersey be like if there were no libraries?  What valuable services do we provide on a daily basis that simply go unrecognized and unappreciated?  The New Jersey State Library and the New Jersey Library Association need your help.  We're taking a snapshot of a typical day in the life of New Jersey’s libraries.

Here’s what you can do to be ready to help us show our impact.
 
Go to the Snapshot Day wiki:  

• Print out a copy of the survey to keep at your desk.
• Print out a copy of the photo release form
• Review the original announcement 

We need participation from ALL library types – academic, school, special, public, large, small, and in-between.  

The bigger our numbers, the greater our impact.
 
If your library will be closed on February 19, 2009, just pick an alternate date to make your count.
