Bring a bottle of wine and/or small appetizer and join your NJ SLA colleagues for a wine tasting get-together located in Far Hills, NJ close to Routes 202, 287 and 78.

Directions will be provided when we confirm your RSVP.  Spouses and significant others are welcome.  Bring a towel and your bathing suit if you want a dip in the pool.

Please join us at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 26, for an afternoon tea party at Ana Beall's Tea Room in Westfield, NJ. Ana Beall's offers a wonderful selection of teas, light sandwiches, desserts and scones. Come and enjoy the company of your NJ SLA colleagues and the delicious refreshments. This Dina Around event will be co-hosted by Claudia Cuca, Kris Fitzpatrick, and Liz Arnold.

Ellen Mehling, Manager of Metro’s JobMagnet Website, will be offering tips for job success for experienced professionals. Many librarians who have been info pros for years are facing particular challenges now, in the current economy, and some are finding that they need (or want) to retool or reinvent themselves professionally. Tips and advice in this presentation will include the role of "soft" skills in your career, do's and don'ts for career success in changing times, and discussion of obstacles  (internal and external) you may find yourself facing.

Volunteer a few hours of your time to help the next generation of special librarians!

We got the following request from Madelyne Burr, President of the Rutgers student chapter of SLA (RUSLA). They need 2-3 special librarians and if possible 1 law librarian too represent special libraries at their upcoming Career Fair to be held at Rutgers SCI on April 21st from 4:00 - 6:30 pm.

Greetings from Rutgers!

On April 21st there will be a  Career Fair held for MLIS students in the Rutgers' School of Communication and Information.  The fair is sponsored by 2 student groups (LISSA and RUSLA) and will involve a number of people. The idea is to have librarians from various sectors (academic, public, school, law, etc. etc.) available to speak one-on-one with students. There will also be a separate event which pairs NJLA librarians with students to review their resumes.

In addition, we would also like to have representatives from professional organizations (such as NJ SLA) available to speak with the students. I am on the planning committee for the event and as such, have been tasked with procuring librarians. I was wondering if anyone from NJ SLA would be interested in helping to staff the SLA table? The fair will run from apprx. 4:00-6:30pm and I believe it will probably be pretty well attended.

We would love to have at least 2 NJSLA representatives. It would also be great if we could get at least 1 law librarian.

SLA-NY Happy Hour: Wednesday, June 3, 5:30 to 7:30 pm

Please join us for a drink, a snack, and good networking prior to the SLA annual conference in DC (June 13-17), whether or not you will be going to Washington.  The SLA-NY Chapter is holding its next 2009 Happy Hour on Wednesday, June 3rd, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm at the Midtown Executive Club. 

Happy Hours are a regular event the NY Chapter organizes to give members a chance to meet and chat.  Prospective members, students, and colleagues also are welcome.

There is no charge to attend, and there is no agenda except to network with colleagues in a quiet space. You will have an opportunity to introduce yourself to the group and make any announcements (such as a new position, job search or job availability).  Please come and tell us who you are and, if you are looking for something, what it is.

SLA Mid-Atlantic Chapters Reception - Tuesday, June 16 (8-11pm)

SLA-NJ, in partnership with neighboring chapters (Virginia, Maryland and Washington DC), will host a reception open to all and designed as a "calm in the midst of the conference storm." This event takes place on Tuesday, June 16th and features free Tarot Card readings (compliments of our Platinum Sponsor--Leadership Directories) and a mini-exhibit of chapter activities from our DC, VA, MD, and NJ chapters.

The reception runs from 8-11pm in Congressional Hall B at the Renaissance Washington DC Hotel (across the street from the Convention Center). Please join us for what is sure to be a great time!

Reminder: Managing Change & Finding Partners in Your Organization - Wednesday, March 25 in Somerville

It's not too late to sign up for NJSLA's first Click University Webinar, this coming Wednesday evening, March 25, in Somerville. Now that SLA has made the Webinars (live and replays) free to members, we hope to share them with members regularly as part of our networking series of events. Of course, our meeting event is free, too.

We will watch the SLA Webinar “Moving to Knowledge Services: Managing the Change and Identifying Advocates and Champions” presented by Guy St. Clair as part of the Click U Live! Seminar series. The focus is mission-critical knowledge services delivery, managing change as the organization moves to knowledge services, and the role of advocates and champions in ensuring the success of the effort.
