Purpose and Scope:
The mission of the Ralph Lauren Library is to collect and organize garments and items that have an enduring value to the Company and its designers. The Ralph Lauren Library serves to preserve and protect the Company’s history, and to provide an essential resource for the Company’s continuing creative and design excellence.
Responsibilities:
Manage the activity of the Inspirational area as it relates to servicing the customer:
Opening and closing the library daily.
Logging visits.
Greeting and assisting library members.
Demonstrating a deep knowledge of the Inspirational collection.
Manage the day-to-day circulation of Inspirational garments and items.
Filling requests for garments and/or items from the library.
Processing returns.
Manage the activities of Coordinators and freelance librarians. Lend best practices to preserve and protect the library’s contents.
Ensure the items are received and put away properly in the library.
Ensure that the space is maintained properly.
Act as the point person for the design teams to process acquisitions for the Inspirational area as outlined by Ralph Lauren Library policies.
Work with the design teams to provide for the orderly selection of garments and items for donation to the Ralph Lauren Library.
Manage the workflow of new items intended for the library. Authenticate, evaluate, and categorize the garments and related items in the Company’s Inspirational collection.
Describe, catalogue and analyze the garments and items within the Inspirational collection.
Maintain the arrangement of inspirational garments and items; cataloguing and displaying the Inspirational collection in ways which are intuitive to the Company’s design teams.
Provide Ralph Lauren Library members with a constant reminder of the Ralph Lauren Library’s operating principles, policies and procedures.
Help to ensure that the library policies and procedures reflect the realities and needs of the collection, design teams, staff.
Identify and resolve problems related to workflow and customer service.
Job Requirements:
BA in Fashion or Museum Studies required
Master’s Degree in Costume Studies or related degree preferred
2 years related industry experience in a library or design environment
Computer skills
