Description:
Summary: As a member of Research and Instructional Services Department, the Learning Design Librarian will have instructional and liaison responsibilities within the library, and will oversee the development and coordination of the new Digital Learning Center located in the main library on the Glassboro campus of Rowan University. The incumbent will have supervisory responsibilities for one professional staff member as well as student assistants
Details: Participate in a dynamic instruction program that emphasizes the integration of digital and print resources, promotes inquiry, critical thinking, information literate and technically proficient self-directed learners
- Plan, develop and maintain a Digital Learning Center design to meet the ongoing needs primarily of students and secondarily of faculty and university staff
- Design, implement, and assess library developed instructional services, including: curricular focused instruction, drop-in workshops, interactive Web-based tutorials, point-of-need instruction, library orientation tours, community outreach activities, and individualized research assistance
- Within the library's web environment, create and maintain an interactive presence for the Digital Learning Center
- Collaborate with Librarians in the delivery of classroom based Instructional Services
- Develops online tutorials to inform and engage users of the library and its resources
- Develops and expands online information literacy content
- Analyzes ongoing student learning issues and works with librarians and faculty regarding online and blended information literacy
- Perform needs and task analysis and evaluate existing documentation to identify the most appropriate training approach and content to meet the learning needs
- Represents the library on campus committees and participates in consortium, state, regional and national Access Services and Resource Sharing activities of organizations
- May be assigned to special projects or ad hoc committees at the request of the Library Dean
Qualifications:
- Education: A Master's of Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited program or equivalent, and a second subject Master's degree, or PhD, in Learning Design, Instructional Technology, or similar.
- Required:
- Three years minimum relevant, post degree, library experience
- Substantial and demonstrated understanding of key issues and trends in public services within academic libraries, and specifically in digital learning environments.
- Experience in designing and developing e-learning modules, videos, online assessment tools
- Knowledge of Courseware such as Blackboard, Moodle, or similarSupervision of staff in an academic library environmentLibrary instruction or teaching experience
- Good interpersonal skills and an ability to maintain a cool demeanor in stressful situations.
- Committed to excellent customer service in a user centered environment.
- Substantial understanding of key issues and trends in access services, academic libraries, and resources sharing issues.
Preferred:
- Experience with Ex Libris' Voyager circulation module
- Knowledge of Web production tools
- Reference/Information Services experience
Starting Date: July 1, 2012 or as soon thereafter as possible.
