Description:
The primary focus of this position will be to train library clients to become efficient and effective users of available information resources and tools in the service of clinical care. Duties may include participation in just-in-time instruction on rounds, morning report and conference series, departmental meetings and CMSRU curricular instruction.
The librarian in this position will design, deliver, promote, and evaluate Information Literacy and Evidence Based Practice (EBP) training and provide customized consultation services in person, by phone or electronically.
The librarian will also identify needs and develop programs that focus on the changing technology needs of the Library, faculty, staff and students. This includes responsibility to follow the development of new and emerging technologies in the field and analyze the potential of new technologies; identify and recommend new technologies and their application to the library that will significantly improve or transform the library's current services for information resource discovery and retrieval; and participate in departmental and library-wide technological planning and implementation activities.
The Information Services Librarian will perform literature searches and provide advanced research assistance to students and faculty, as well as hospital staff and administration, to support clinical care and research.
This position reports to the Assistant Director of the Library.
Qualifications:
Required:
- ALA-accredited Masters degree in Library Science with a minimum of three years of library and teaching experience in a health sciences or hospital library is required
- Knowledge of the concepts of Information Literacy, including an in-depth understanding of Evidence Based Practice (EBP)
- Experience in developing and presenting educational sessions
- Proficiency with health sciences databases, resources, and literature
- Knowledge of issues, trends, and best practices of expert searching in health sciences libraries
- Ability to effectively teach adults using a variety of educational technologies
- Excellent verbal and written communication and collaboration skills
- Strong analytical and organizational skills
- Excellent customer service skills are required along with a commitment to customer service
- Knowledge of and willingness to support and participate in scholarly communication
- Familiarity with the use of new media technologies in educational settings with the ability to acquire new technological skills and resolve problems in a resourceful and timely manner
- Ability to work well independently, as part of a team, and as the leader of a team
Preferred:
- Knowledge of evidence-based medicine issues and experience with EBM resources
- Familiarity with inpatient and ambulatory healthcare environments
- Experience in building collaborative relationships with clinical faculty and house staff
- Experience in contributing knowledge management expertise for group instruction sessions, individual consultations, and specialized information services, and attendance at clinical research committee meetings, clinical rounds, journal clubs, seminars, and/or case- conferences.
- Ability to plan, coordinate workflows, and implement projects
- Demonstrated commitment to continuing professional development and participation in professional activities
