External Overview: |
Working with Children's Librarian and the staff of the 67th Street Branch, this internship enables an MLS student to observe and participate in the various public service and children's programming functions within a large circulating library. The intern will receive instruction on daily library management, library policies and procedures, and may attend some staff meetings to discuss important issues facing libraries today. In collaboration with Library staff, the intern will work closely with the children's librarian to help plan and run activities and help with other special events. In addition, the intern will receive instruction in display setup and collection marketing along with training in the Library’s print and electronic resources. Through these and other activities, this internship will provide an in-depth look of the interpersonal and technological skills and overall knowledge necessary to serve the patrons of a bustling neighborhood branch of The New York Public Library. |
