Job Details
The Salem County Historical Society is seeking a part-time Librarian to supervise the library and archival collections at the Society’s Grant House location in Salem, New Jersey. The librarian is responsible for responding to research inquiries from visitors to the library, over the phone, and through email. The Librarian provides researchers with guidance on the materials in the library and archives of the Historical Society as well as possessing an understanding of other resources in the area. Other duties of the Librarian include:
- - Maintaining, organizing, and updating the PastPerfect library and archival catalog.
- - Creating, implementing, and enforcing library and archival policies.
- - Assist the Curator in exhibit research.
- - Process and catalog all incoming library and archival materials.
- - Maintain the periodicals and online subscriptions of the library.
- - Supervise all library volunteers.
- - Other duties as assigned.
The Librarian schedule is Tuesday through Saturday, 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The position of Librarian requires a fundamental working knowledge of computers and software such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and internet databases. Previous library experience is preferred but not required. Previous experience with genealogical research is strongly preferred.
