External Overview: |
The
Public Programs Lifelong Learning division seeks two enthusiastic
M.L.I.S. students or recent graduates from an ALA-accredited program to
help operate, assist, manage and evaluate programs for teens in library
locations throughout the Bronx, Manhattan, and Staten Island, for 15 to
20 hours per week. The qualified person will partner with library staff
to help with program management and implementation, assist with large
scale events, help youth library users better understand the resources
of the NYPL and educational uses of digital learning tools, and work
with library staff to promote NYPL programs and resources in New York
City schools.

External Responsibilities: |
Under the supervision of the Teen Programming Specialist:
- Assists in managing programmatic operations at library sites
- Assists with the implementation of teen advisory group programs and other large-scale events
- Assists with marketing and outreach to schools to promote library programs and resources
- Assists in communication with library staff and outside programmers about best practices for children and family programming
- Collaborates
with program leaders to recruit, engage and sustain youth involvement
for single-session and multi-session program opportunities in libraries
- Assists Public Program Lifelong Learning staff in documenting and evaluating program progress
- Assists in the research and development of programs and special projects
- Participates in social media marketing for library programs
- Performs other related duties as required

External Qualifications: |
- Current enrollment in or a recent graduate of an ALA-accredited Master's program in Library and Information Science
- Demonstrated reliability and flexibility
- Interest in urban library services
- Successfully demonstrated communication skills
- Experience providing excellent customer service
- Experience in library programming or youth activities preferred
- Knowledge of or interest in working with teens in libraries preferred
- If a position is offered, must pass a pre-employment background check, drug screen and DOE fingerprinting
