Data Scientist, Financial Intelligence, Digital Reasoning Systems, Inc., New York City
We are looking for a dedicated big data scientist to help us extract, sort, analyze and deliver relevant information from large volumes of unstructured textual data. Our company is redefining how software consumes and understands human generated textual data. With an initial focus on making sense of massive volumes of disparate unstructured text in multiple languages within the intelligence community, Digital Reasoning is now working on enabling financial analysts to read less and analyze more. If your interests lie on the intersection of natural language processing, big data, and finance, this position is a great next step in your career.
What we give you?
You will be a part of a small, fast paced, dynamic, yet casual team tasked with defining and building a business vertical from scratch.
We will provide you with the latest tools, hardware, and services to let you do your work as quickly and creatively as possible.
You will be exposed to leading big data architectures (Hadoop, Hbase, Cloudbase, and Cassandra) and cutting edge text analytics technologies.
You will not be dealing with oversized egos, politics, or red tape.
Competitive compensation, a stake in the company, and a really exciting job and mission.
What you need from you
First and foremost, you should enjoy and be comfortable with working with data. Lots of it. You will be spending a lot of your time building and querying data in SQL/Postgres, Pig and Hive, and working with data tools such as Excel, Google Refine. You will do most of your work in the context of research we are conducting and business problems we are solving for bulge bracket and sophisticated financial institutions. Therefore, you should be familiar with and eager to learn more about corporate finance and the capital markets.
Beyond the core skills, we want someone who is passionate, driven, and looking to join a company that is here to make a difference in the world, and not someone simply looking for their next job.
You will have to hit the ground running and become a contributor quickly.
What you will be doing

- Help develop use cases for our technology in the workflow of financial analysts and at large financial institutions
- Work on the data layer behind our product demos and marketing narratives across various use cases and sources of information

- You have been churning out complex SQL queries for living for at least a couple of years
- You don’t use the mouse in excel
- You are interested in natural language processing and text analytics
