Music/Performing Arts Librarian
New
Brunswick Libraries
RESPONSIBILITIES: Rutgers University Libraries seek an innovative, flexible, and energetic individual to serve as Music/Performing Arts Librarian and as a liaison to the departments of Music, Theater, and Dance of the Mason Gross School of the Arts on the New Brunswick/Piscataway campus. The librarian will be responsible for collection development in these subject areas and attuned to the departments’ research and curricular needs; collaborate with faculty to design curriculum-integrated library instruction for in-person, online, and hybrid courses; participate in in-person and virtual reference; and shape new directions for development and access to collections using digital and multimedia technology with the infrastructure offered by the Sharon A. Fordham Multimedia Laboratory and other library units. Reporting to the Associate University Librarian for Research and Instructional Services, this librarian will be based in the Blanche and Irving Laurie Performing Arts Library and will be a member of the New Brunswick Libraries Faculty. The successful candidate will represent the Libraries in the aforementioned academic units and introduce innovative library interventions and co-curricular collaborations in the areas of public services and scholarly communication, fostering close intellectual partnerships between the libraries and the academic community. This is a tenure-track faculty position, requiring publication, research, and active participation in professional associations. It is an ideal opportunity for a librarian with vision and initiative.
QUALIFICATIONS: An ALA-accredited MLS or its equivalent is required. A minimum of three years library experience, including collection development and public services related to music, theater, or dance; an advanced degree in music; proficiency in English and at least one additional western European language; demonstrated knowledge of the application of multimedia technology as it relates to audio and video; and proven familiarity with metadata standards are strongly preferred. Must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work collegially in a team-oriented environment. Demonstrated commitment to fostering diversity is required. Candidates who have had successful experience in the design and delivery of services for diverse populations will be given preference. The successful candidate must be eligible to work in the United States.
SALARY/STATUS: Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

LIBRARY PROFILE: The Rutgers University Libraries, comprising libraries on the University’s Camden, New Brunswick, and Newark campuses, all reporting to the Vice President for Information Services and University Librarian, operate as a unified library system with coordinated public, technical services, and collection development programs including digital initiatives and a pioneering institutional repository.
