SLA SD Fall Seminar Planning Committee: A Volunteer Opportunity

Your 2010 Directors Geeth Vijay-Rao and Jill Blaemers are looking for up to three committee members to help with planning and organizing the 2010 Fall Seminar.

 

Committee members will help brainstorm and survey potential seminar topics, and with organizing seminar logistics, recruiting speakers, and obtaining sponsorships.

February 18, 2010 - SLA-SD Program on Amazing Research Tips and Techniques!

This will be a fast paced, knowledge packed program where you can be sure to learn new research tips that will serve you and your Library clients well. Three  expert presenters, Cindy Shamel, Mary Wickline and Britt Mueller will each provide an overview of the newest research techniques that have proven highly successful in creating extra value for their clients.

 

The session will cover:

·         Social media searching for competitive intelligence. Specific tools include: Addictomatic, OneRiot, CrowdEye, and Backtype

·         PubMed’s new interface and cool tools for finding what you need including using the MyNCBI filters, MeSH thesaurus, Special Topics, Clinical Queries, and more.

·         Quickly and easily building a Google Custom search engine for increased search precision, the resulting “special” search engine can be loaded into iGoogle, or provided on your website for end users.

 

A handout with specific information on the tools covered will be provided to all attendees. Don’t miss this session!
