Blogging is now a very common method of getting the word out about one's expertise. I also think that it contributes greatly to showcasing the depth and variety of knowledge of information professionals.
I finally jumped into the ring recently with my blog "The SharePoint Librarian". (when you get there scroll down to my very first post on the blog that explains my corny title... I'm not shying away from the "librarian" moniker just yet!) I have to admit that I am still getting used to making sure I write regularly on the blog but it does seem to be getting easier. Writing is not one of the things I enjoy but I do love sharing knowledge and helping others. I don't have a ton of comments on my blog yet but I do know from the statistics that people are reading it.
If you haven't given blogging a try yet I say 2009 is the year to go for it! Pick a specific area/niche that you can contribute to and try to add a little something every other week (that seems to be about all I can handle). In between your more "formal" posts you can periodically make an observation, announce an event, etc. Learn more about blogging at SLA's 23 Things.
If you are an SLA San Diego Chapter member and you have a blog PLEASE leave a comment to this post with the link to your blog and a brief description of it. If I get a good list of member blogs I will add a list of the blogs in the right hand column of this blog site. Let's see what we are all blogging about in San Diego! :)
We also welcome members to submit information that they would like posted on this chapter blog!
